Inflamed, infected hair follicles

Scalp Folliculitis

Scalp folliculitis is inflammation of hair follicles, typically caused by bacterial infection (Staphylococcus aureus), Malassezia yeast overgrowth, or physical occlusion. Presents as red, itchy pustules or papules around follicle openings. In Malaysia's tropical climate, heat, humidity, and sweat occlusion create ideal conditions for folliculitis development.

Key Characteristics

  • Small red or white pustules surrounding hair follicle openings
  • Persistent scalp itch, burning, or tenderness
  • Crusty lesions that may rupture and dry
  • Hair loss within affected areas (temporary in mild cases)
  • Worsening after sweating, heat exposure, or occlusion

Our Treatment Approach

Trichoscopy scalp imaging to assess follicle condition and scalp environment. Targeted scalp care protocols matched to assessed scalp condition. Enzymatic cleansing to clear follicle occlusion. pH restoration to rebalance the acid mantle. Heat and occlusion management for hijab-wearing and helmet-using clients.
