About Head Spa

What is a head spa?+

A head spa is a professional scalp and hair treatment combining scalp analysis, exfoliation, targeted serum application, and therapeutic massage — personalised to your specific scalp condition. TTE Elephant adds AI trichoscopy scanning to every session, generating a clinical protocol rather than a generic service.

How is a head spa different from a regular hair salon treatment?+

Salon treatments target the hair shaft. Head spa protocols target the scalp — the environment from which hair grows. This means addressing sebum regulation, follicle health, microbiome balance, and the nervous system factors that affect scalp biology. The hair shaft is already dead tissue; the scalp is where intervention is meaningful.

What makes Korean headspa different?+

Korean headspa methodology requires diagnostic assessment before any formulation is applied. It uses meridian-based pressure protocols targeting specific neural pathways, multi-step formulations matched to trichoscopy findings (not hair type), and structured treatment phases rather than single-product application.

How long is a typical session?+

Our AI Scalp Analysis takes 10–15 minutes and precedes every treatment. The treatments range from 45 minutes (Deep Scalp Cleansing) to 90 minutes (Sleep Healing Headspa and Korean Flower Headspa). First-time clients typically book a 75–90 minute slot to include the full assessment.

Scalp Conditions

I've tried many dandruff shampoos but nothing works. Why?+

Dandruff shampoos address surface-level Malassezia colonies. They cannot penetrate the infundibulum (upper follicle channel) where yeast colonies establish. Professional microbiome-balancing protocols deliver actives at a deeper follicular level and include the enzymatic detox needed to remove the biofilm that shampoos leave intact. KL's humidity also means the yeast recolonises quickly — ongoing maintenance is more effective than single-treatment cycles.

Does cortisol reduction from scalp massage have clinical evidence?+

Yes. Research suggests that stimulation of the greater occipital nerve — which shares neuroanatomical connectivity with the vagal nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) — activates the parasympathetic nervous system. This may help modulate ACTH (the precursor to cortisol) and circulating inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6. Occipital-focused scalp work promotes measurable relaxation. This is the mechanistic basis of our Sleep Healing Headspa.

Why is my hair falling out months after a stressful event?+

This is telogen effluvium — a delayed shedding response. Cortisol suppresses Wnt/β-catenin signalling in follicle cells, prematurely shifting growing hairs (anagen) into the resting phase (telogen). Hair in telogen remains anchored for 3–4 months before falling. The delay is why shedding peaks months after the stressor has passed. The good news: the natural growth cycle can often resume once the stress load is reduced and follicle stem cell activation is supported.

My scalp gets oily within hours of washing. What causes this?+

Overactive sebaceous glands are often triggered by: stripping the scalp with harsh sulphate shampoos (the gland compensates by producing more sebum), hormonal DHT elevation, or high ambient humidity (KL's 80% RH) creating a microenvironment that prevents normal sebum evaporation. Sebum regulation protocols work on the gland's feedback loop — not just surface cleansing.

Hijabi Scalp Care

Do you have private rooms for hijabi clients?+

Yes. All TTE Elephant branches offer fully private treatment rooms. You can arrive in hijab, have your assessment conducted before any fabric adjustment is needed, and receive treatment in a completely private setting with a trained female therapist.

Are your treatments suitable for covered-hair conditions?+

Our hijabi protocol is specifically adapted for covered-scalp microclimate conditions: elevated sebum production, increased Malassezia risk from trapped heat, friction damage at the hijab line, and the traction patterns that develop at frontal and temporal hairlines. Standard head spa protocols are not designed for these conditions — ours are.

Is TTE Elephant Muslim-friendly?+

Yes. Our formulations are alcohol-free and free of porcine-derived ingredients. Our therapists are trained in modesty-compliant positioning and private room treatment protocols. All branches are hijabi-friendly by design.

Treatments & Frequency

How often should I visit?+

For general maintenance, once monthly is sufficient. For targeted concerns — hair fall, dandruff, or stress-related shedding — every 2 weeks for the first 2 months creates a measurable restoration baseline. Your AI scan at each visit tracks objective progress across sessions.

Will treatment damage my coloured hair?+

No. Our protocols use colour-safe professional formulations. A clean, healthy scalp actually improves colour longevity by improving the follicle environment. We recommend waiting 48–72 hours post-colour before booking a full treatment.

Is it suitable for all hair types?+

Yes — including straight, wavy, curly, coily, coloured, chemically-treated, and hijabi hair. We carry formulations for every scalp condition. Private rooms are standard at all branches.
