HOW IT WORKS
Peachcalm modulates the metabolic pathway of scalp bacteria — specifically inhibiting the overgrowth of P. acnes and Malassezia — without bactericidal action that would damage the microbiome's beneficial species. It targets the sebum dysregulation pathway at the metabolic level, reducing inflammatory fatty acid production while preserving commensal bacterial diversity.
THE SCIENCE
The scalp hosts a complex microbiome of approximately 80 bacterial genera and multiple fungal species. In a balanced state, these organisms coexist without causing symptoms. When environmental triggers — humidity, sweat occlusion, product residue, hormonal shifts — disrupt this balance, opportunistic species proliferate beyond threshold levels.
Conventional anti-dandruff actives (zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole, selenium sulfide) address this through broad-spectrum antimicrobial action. The limitation is collateral damage: they suppress the pathogenic species but simultaneously reduce populations of beneficial Cutibacterium and Staphylococcus species that maintain the acid mantle and compete against pathogens.
Peachcalm takes a different approach. Derived from Peachgum (桃胶 — the natural resinous exudate of peach trees), it is a one-of-a-kind cosmetic design ingredient that regulates scalp microbiome balance by modulating the metabolic processes of problematic bacteria rather than eliminating them. This preserves microbiome diversity while resolving the overgrowth that drives dandruff, folliculitis, and seborrhoeic dermatitis.
The ingredient's ability to soften keratin is a secondary benefit with clinical relevance: hardened keratin deposits at the follicle opening trap sebum and create the anaerobic environment where Malassezia thrives. By softening these deposits, Peachcalm allows sebum to flow freely, removing the substrate for fungal proliferation.
