By the second or third day of a haze episode the complaints arrive in the same order. The scalp feels tight and faintly gritty at the parting by late afternoon. - Grit. Fine particulate deposited along the parting and the hairline, where the scalp is most directly exposed. Usually detectable by touch before it is visible in a mirror.
- A coated, heavy feel by evening. Hair lies closer to the head, reflects less light, and reads as unwashed several hours earlier than it normally would.
- Itch with nothing to see. No rash, no obvious flaking, no single spot to point at. Irritation at the level of the barrier rather than an eruption on the surface.

Why Particulate Sticks to a Scalp Rather Than Blowing Off
Sebum is adhesive. The scalp carries one of the highest densities of sebaceous glands on the body, and in Malaysian heat that output runs high year-round. A lipid film is tacky. The first is real and mechanical. Sebum output has not changed, but the film on the scalp is now heavier — sebum plus bound particulate plus whatever styling product is in the hair. The second is self-inflicted. The instinctive response to a coated scalp is to shampoo two or three times a day in hot water. What Actually Helps
- Do not add washes. The instinct on a coated scalp is to shampoo two or three times a day. If you normally wash every second or third day and your scalp is comfortable, keep that rhythm.
- Be gentler than the itch asks you to be. When It Is Not Just Haze
Haze-related itch has a recognisable shape. It tracks the episode, it is worse on days you spent hours outdoors, and it settles within a few days of the air clearing once normal washing resumes. Anything that departs from that shape needs a different explanation.
See a doctor for anything respiratory — shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, wheezing, a persistent cough, or eye and throat irritation that does not settle once you are indoors.
